Mezzo Soprano Nicole Thomas is originally from Las Vegas, Nevada. She recently completed her Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School under the vocal instruction of Ms. Edith Bers and is a proud recipient of the Novick Career Advancement Grant. She was a 2017 and 2018 studio artist at Wolf Trap Opera, where she performed excerpts from Ariadne auf Naxos as Der Komponist, Don Giovanni as Donna Elvira, and Così fan tutte as Dorabella. She performed with the National Orchestral Institute philharmonic as a soloist in their Leonard Bernstein Centennial Celebration and covered the role of Idamante in Mozart's Idomeneo.
This 2018- 2019 season, she performed as a soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic in their ‘Happy Birthday Gershwin’ concert, conducted by John Morris Russell. She returned to Wolf Trap Opera to join their production of Frank Martin’s Le Vin Herbé as Iseult aux Blanche Main, and is looking forward to the summer, where she will be singing Hänsel in Opera Saratoga’s production of Hänsel und Gretel.
During the 2017-18 season at The Juilliard School, Ms. Thomas was heard in a live-streamed master class with Joyce Didonato and portrayed La Chatte and L’Ecureuil in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les Sortilèges under the baton of Emmanuel Villaume. Additionally, she participated in a recital for the New York Festival of Song lead by Steven Blier, and performed on WQXR's ‘Midday Masterpieces.’ This past 2016-17 season, she was heard in several scenes programs as Idamante in Idomeneo and Dorabella in Così fan tutte. She participated in a liederabend recital coached by Natalia Katyukova and a master class with Yannick Nézet- Séguin. She covered the Stewardess in Jonathon Dove’s Flight and played the role of Fekluša in Janáček’s Katya Kabanova. Her other recent operatic roles include Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème, Cherubino in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro, and Dryade in Ariadne auf Naxos. During the summer of 2015, she participated in Houston Grand Opera’s Young Artist Vocal Academy. She won the Nevada District of the Metropolitan Opera National Council auditions and was the recipient of an encouragement award at the Rocky Mountain Regional finals in both 2015 and 2016.
